Just about the only way this could be worse is if the service equipment was located outside and she was standing in the grass....

I can see how she might think the fuse came apart, but if it still looked whole, and the new fuse fit in the socket just fine, that's a strong indicator that she should probably refrain from mangling things with pliers....

How would you remove a Type-S (Fustat®) base adapter? I know they make (used to makes?) tools to get them out, but is it possible to do it any other way?

I always thought those type "S" adapters were non-removeable.

I never knew a tool existed to remove the type S adapters either! It almost looks like a corkscrew/meter ring key!

Who makes that tool? Do you have a part #?
I have enough trouble getting those out without destroying the panel socket.

I've had one of these tools for 20+ years. Real handy item. You insert the tool with the cutting blade resting on the rim of the adapter and you turn it, it peels off the ring and allows you to remove the bakelite insert, then you flip the tool around so the round end is in the remaining shell and unscrew it as you would a broken light bulb.
