An example demonstrating the improper use of materials. Why is this NG?

Here's a photo of a "receptacle" for an outdoor sign.

Last I noticed, a "valise cap" is listed for rubber cord only. It looks like UF, and UF is not rubber cord, and UF is solid vs stranded. (If it's rx, same story), Also, last cap I saw had "round" strain relief built in cap, rubber cord is round, UF is flat, unless you mangle it.
Now, what about "weatherproof in use"???
Haven't seen a valise cap with a bubble cover yet! (Seen a few with the Scotch33 weatherproofing thou.

Notice the black tape marks? I think this one's been WPed w/ some Scotch33 (or more likely, the TruValue equivalent!)...

I think it is for Holiday Lighting, but ya gotta give 'em credit for their attempt to comply with 600.5(A) (Tongue firmly planted in cheek)!

Forgot to mention that it is installed in a stone structure elevating an outdoor sign. Wife says it was a fountain at one time.

Oh well, yes it's probably subject to physical damage, and the "right way" is conduit and a WP box/recept/cover etc., but the red stickers are not BIG enough to list all the code articles & violations.
Inproper use of listed equipment, short & sweet. Start over.

PS Virgil:
I didn't notice that this was "yours" when I first saw the post.

I'm sure you understand John, but for the sake of other readers I wish to point out that, yes, it is my picture, but not my work!

I can only imagine that the maintenance guy did this about christmastime, using the available UF cable originally for compliance with 600.5(A), or if it was a fountain, for fountain lights originally. The building isn't very old, about three years.

It caught my eye while on a gig with Fat Headed Monster . BTW, due to said (forgotten about) gig, I didn't make it to Point Pleasant this year with the fife and drum corps.

No pics of the Lowe! [Linked Image]

Nope, Point Pleasant, WV near Ohio.

Hey Virgil,

The Monster dont play any Grateful Dead or Allman Brothers?
(The Dead did a nice job on "It hurts Me Too" during the late '60s/early 70s)
