I got a call to do an estimate for a kitchen remodel, and noticed something funny about the garage door opener... There's also a pic of the cabinet makers extension cord cap [Linked Image]

Hope he's better at making cabinets than he is at installing cord caps.

The garage opener in the picture draws about 2.5 amps. But that speaker cable still needs to be removed pronto.

You sure that's speaker wire and not transparent-insulation lamp cord? The stuff does exist.

I have some things fitted with cord like that -- usually it's lamps.

Regardless, that lash-up's gotta go! [Linked Image]

Me too, I have a US table lamp with translucent SPT1 zip cord. I guess if the opener weren't plug connected but hard wired this would be ok in some countries - the load limits the current, removing the need for OC protection. Short circuit protection is provided by the 20amp breaker.

Anyway, with that creative trailing socket it's illegal.

In pic #3, is that two duplex 20A recepts in a 4-square box?

Either that or a 2-gang box. Why?
