Got a call to a Pushmatic breaker that wouldn't reset.... This is how I found the panel, customized to a subpanel during an addition in the 1960's! Customer states it's always been this way [Linked Image]

I've never considered Pushmatics safe, Randy. I think you see more bad work & old services in a month than I see in a year!!!

PS.. A Square D QO subpanel now resides here [Linked Image] 2 fold in benefits, the customer was looking for a reason to 86 the "Brady Bunch paneling" [Linked Image]

The Pushmatics fare especially poorly by the beach. (This is right in Randy's hometown)
I've always loved this "aquamarine crayon" color, but the breakers sure do get crappy after 40 years or so. The sand doesn't help much, either [Linked Image]

Scott,
Seems the Pushmatics dont fare well much anywhere! Corrosion is an issue with most everything when you get close enough to the ocean... (I've changed 3 panels on Oceanfront walk in Newport Beach, All rusted out, holes & all... One was a pushmatic... Lots of Noalox on the bus & lugs helps to at least get out of the warranty period before nature has her way with the new stuff!)
You ain't kidding about the sand either... with the vents in the bottom of the breakers, they seem to attract sand something fierce! Especially in our Inland Empire & desert areas... (The 909 to the locals [Linked Image] ) vegetation is typically minimal there... Ive pulled pushmatics out of a panel in Colton & it was like a salt shaker! [Linked Image]

Be careful around these old panels and try not to get hurt!
