The dryer is using our "standard" such cord. Think of a heavy three-wire 'zip cord.'
Dryers are usually on a 220v, 30 A circuit. Ranges are usually 40 to 60 amps in size.
No, the dryer receptacle was not attached to the wall. FWIW, it was tied into the range circuit, using a very nice 'flying splice', removing piece of conduit, and other niceties.

Two newer cables using the old range outlet as the nearest source of power?

Let me guess -- Were they feeding 15A receptacles?

Hello Paul, the person who did this was infact using the range receptacle for a junction point, and as you guessed, (but not quite as bad as feeding 15 amp recepts) the newer #10 NM's were feeding two 30 amp receptacles from this 60 amp branch circuit.

Excellent pic, Roger....I think that these type of receptacles are among the most often abused devices about.

Thanks John, it certainly seems as though range receptacles are a target for the creative individual.

This receptacle was one of many interesting (kind way of putting it) finds in this older house. I have miss placed the disc, but when I find it I'll post them in another thread.
