Meter socket enclosures are covered by Article 312, but the utility and fire department don't need no stinking permits so what happens when "Bubba" gets huurt?

Joe, I have long heard the argument about whether or not a meter socket enclosure falls within the scope of 110.26(A). I think when the 2005 added meter socket enclosures to 110.16, stating the this type of equipment is in fact often worked on while energized, it solidified the argument that meter socket enclosures do need a working space.

The two utility co's in this area would never set a meter in that pan. That looks like a traffic light box, and YES, permits and inspections are required. Town, County, State all have permits and inspections.

Basically, no 'cut-in card' no meter.
