Joe, Here are a couple of pictures I took while staying at a 4 star resort in Key West, Florida recently!

This was the method they used to power the white mini lights wrapped around the palm trees just behind the entrance sign.

I missed the romex connection to the j-box on the back of the entrance sign. I don’t know if it is secured or not.

I notice there is a proposal for the 2005 NEC that would require holiday lighting to be listed. This will probably get my nickname changed from electrical nazi ( like Sienfeld's soup nazi..."no meter for you"!) to inspector scrooge!

I may have missed something. What holiday was just recently that would have incorporated that kind of lighting? The 4th of July maybe? That setup would send up enough sparks & fireworks to qualify for something. Would not "temporary lighting" being misused in a permanent manner be more descriptive. I don't suppose it was on a GFI protected circuit .. no .. probably not. My handyman must have been working during his vacation.
