Hello, I've got a request for a design (600V welding plugs that I'm having some trouble with.

The design calls for having 8 welding plugs available. The intent is that no more than two of these plugs be used at the same time. The request calls for 60 A plugs

I believe that the overcurrent protection for this system (in accordance with Canadian Electrical code Section 42-006 Sub 2) should be 256 Amps which would require 250 AWG wire.

This seems like an awful waste, as the intent is to run two welders max, but I'm not aware of any provisions that let you rate your welding supply based on intent.

Has anyone ran across a problem like this?

Thanks, Brad.

Intent is one thing....actual use is another. I believe in future proof installs when reasonable and possible. Who is to say that down the road, not more than 2 receptacles will be used? What if more employees get hired, or they get super busy?

I'd run separate lines.

I figured that'd be the way things had to work. Damned logic!

Thanks, Brad.
