When you have an island counter with a sink in it that has counter space on each side of the sink- At what point does the island require more than one receptacle? Another way of putting it - At what point is the island sink creating two countertops? See 210.52(C)(4).

Be sure to empty the bucket daily, and fill the tank on the top.

So if the island is large and the left side and the right side of the sink are 36" x 36" each, do I require two receptacles on each side of the sink?

George:
OK, 36" with a recept centered leaves 18" on each side. Based on that, two will do.

But, knowing you, this may be another trick question!

Why would you ever suspect me of being that way?

I'm merely trying to find out if I'd ever need more than 2 receptacles on an island counter. [Linked Image]

George:
"Need" defined to NEC compliance would be two, as 'splained above.
"Need" as in the real world (design) or desires of the homeowner/customer are different animals.

As to the "trick".....I have a memory!

The way I read 210.52(C)(2) any counter "space" on an island 24" x 12" or greater it needs a receptacle. I see the counter space on each side of a sink as a separate space. The 24" is the troubling measurement. If the counter is only 23 inches across it has to be 24" long to trip this rule. If it is the regular 25" to 30" you see in an island the space only has to be 12" long.
