All the talk about service equipment has got me to thinking. (sorry)

I was told by my local power co. engineer that they figure the average life span of a service, that is the drop, meter base and cb box, to be 15 years.

Now we all have seen some of Joe's pictures of services that are um, "much" older than that. What is your experience.

The FP fuse panel in my house was about 35 when I decided it had had enough. The dryer fuse was getting hot enough to burn the cardboard cylender of the fuse. [Linked Image] You could hear it "fuzz".

Any body have any ideas where the 15 years came from?
