The first reading for approval of the NEC went well today. Mods are: No AFCI's are to be required; No unnecessary restrictions; Address local conditions; GFI's only required in basements with earthen floor. We managed a few things that exceed the NEC, ie; Kitchens require 4 circuits for countertop receptacles and no more than 2 outlets per circuit. This was proposed by a small appliance dealer and he noted electric grills, coffee makers, toasters, toaster ovens, mixers, slicers, etc, etc. You know what? He's right.
2nd reading next Friday and 3rd and final reading on 01/31/03. I feel that we are going to have a good, workable code.
