I have a loft with the entrance door in one corner. The door will swing to the left covering the wall that the door is on. The perpendicular wall is 36" high which overlooks the Living room below.

My question is: is it Ok to put a double box on that short wall (for switches to control ceiling fan & recessed lighting respectively)?

I'd probably have to notch about 5 studs that make up the corner inorder to get wires to that spot. If Ok I'd probably mount the box as close as possible to the top of the 36" wall.

Locating the switch just outside the door doesn't seem like a very elegant solution, it would either be about 4 feet away from the door (because of bathroom door) or next to loft door but on a tall wall which is part of the L shaped staircase.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dan

PS: Also can I locate duplex outlets along that same wall?
