CPSC, Russound Inc. Announce Recall to Repair Audio Video Controller/Amplifiers

WASHINGTON, D.C. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Russound CAV6.6 Audio Video Controller/Amplifiers

Units: 1,200

Manufacturer: Russound Inc., of Newmarket, N.H.

Hazard: The Controller/Amplifiers can short circuit and overheat, posing a risk of injury to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Russound has received one report of a controller/amplifier short circuiting and smoking, though no injuries or property damage has been reported.

Description: The recalled Russound CAV6.6 Controller/Amplifiers have serial numbers ranging between 03141500000000 and 03281500000500, which can be found on the back panel in the upper right hand corner. The black amplifiers also have the words, “CAV6.6 Multizone Controller” printed in silver letters on the front of the unit.

Sold at: Electronics distributors and resellers and audio/video retailers nationwide sold the controller/amplifiers between May 2003 and September 2003 for about $2,200.

Manufactured in: South Korea.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product and the outlet. Dealers and installers will contact consumers directly to arrange for a free repair. Consumers who have not been contacted directly should call their dealer/installer or Russound.
