early 80's would be my guess.... I have a couple of these also

Yep. I installed plenty of those in the early 80s. I believe they were among the first wiring devices that GE made in Mexico.

smile Well, I think I'd want the neutral to be on top, and the hot below. If something thin and conductive should fall and touch the neutral (which was on top), no big deal, if, however... frown If this is a valid reason, GE got it backwards.

Unless you like reading the T and R buttons while standing on your head, it looks like it's designed so that the ground goes on the right.
