Woke up, waiting for coffee to finish dripping, and fell asleep, and got to work an hour late. Today I was to slam out a 320/400A U/G service up-grade. Inspection tomorrow. But first had to demo a 200A service done in the 30's. Neat old service... Old black iron pipe, tarred and taped CT in an ancient cabinet to a K&T remote meter. I shut off the main and start two guys demoing all the gear on the load side, and I hopped in the christy to cut the mains. I'm pulling up the conductors for another guy to cut - "STOP! - gemmie your knife...." The conductors didn't look the same as in the disco, scraped off some dirt, and they're lead sheathed. They had cut the sheath off right at the top of the bushing in the disco. The sheath and conduit is grounded in few different places, it could have been a REALLY short day had we cut it. Lucky I have seen lead sheath before on some of the areas old DC services that I have worked on.
