What are some reasons why power companies insist on certain type of meter pans? Unfortuneatly, I installed the wrong type meter pan and wound up having to change it at the end of the day after I was all done. That really sucked, lol. Is it a characteristics of the meter issue?

Around here, the POCO provides meter bases free, so they're already the approved type. Our POCO has a "blue book" with all service requirements in it. You would have to check with your POCO to see a list of approved bases.

some POCO use a 5th jaw for electronic meters, some don't.

PSE&G has a "Green Book" with their specs; PSE&G will issue a meter pan upon you filling out a PSE&G application, and presenting a valid, original municipal permit for said work. Pans must be capable of 'barrel lock'

JCP&L, does NOT issue any meter pans. You have to buy it. JCP&L 'spec' at the supply house.

I have no clue about Rockland/Orange Electric (North Corner), nor Atlantic Electric (Southern areas)

Need more info??? Shoot me an e-mail.

I have the PS book from 2005. Does JCP&L have something similiar? I was just curious if the meter itself is physically different from meter to meter. I installed the wrong type meter the other day and HAD to replace it with the a Jersey Central type. Damn, that sucked!

As John said, each POCO has their own rules and you have to follow them, if you don't you have to wind up removing the ofending piece and doing the job all over again.
I install an underground service once and it met all of the NEC requirements, however it didn't meet the POCO rules and I wound up digging up the underground line in the middle of the winter to redo the job because the POCO didn't like it.

JCP&L no longer provides a "book" to my knowledge. Their info is available on-line.

Parent company was 'First Energy' You have to do a search for the site, I don't have a link.

On the same note, IF you need any info/help, get in touch with me for my cell number. No strings, no cost involved, just sparky to sparky.

Les:
You come thru....where others fail.

I haven't had much dealings lately with JCP&L, last was my own house....still waiting for a new drop, and 'approved crimps'

That First Energy link is exactly what I needed!

Thank you so much.

Sometimes I don't know what I'd do w/o this site.
