Does anybody know who makes / made a tool that looks like a pipe hickey ,but is designed to bend cables ? A fellow electrician has told me about these and I saw some on ebay but missed out. I would like to know if they are still made and where to purchase them.

Check Greenlee cat. no 796- I think that's the tool you're looking for.

Sorry - We have the Greenlee cable bender.
What I am looking for looks like a smaller version of a rigid pipe hickey. Made to help form larger cables without damage. Am being told they are easier to use then that Greenlee item.

Thanks, Bill- I had forgotten about that one.

No, I haven't used the Greenlee tool- but it's on my wish list! I have another 500mcmjob on the horizon....

I wish I had had a wire bender like these several years ago, when we had to get the hood on a weatherhead on a horizontal (through-the-wall) conduit with four 500MCM AL wires.

The wall kept getting in the way of bending the wires beyond the necessary bend; the wire was so springy that it kept popping the hood off, like an old-fasioned mouse-trap.

I also wish someone mad a less-than-90-degree weatherhead for this application. Unlike with a vertical run, beyond 90 degrees is not necessary for rain-proofing.

You all might scoff at the idea....
But, pair of channel-locks or pipe wrench with an enormous amount of cheap black tape on the jaws to coat and dull the teeth, will do the same job.

When you're done slash the tape off.

I think I have seen another one by Klien, a long handle with kind of a donut shape at the end? (wait while I look it up)

Yep!
