I've been getting hammered by this Microsoft Security patch thing.

I know most of you know already, but for those who MAY just unwittingly click on this....

IT'S BOGUS!!!!! DELETE DELETE DELETE.

I stomped on 200-plus of these things this morning.

I'm getting slammed here, too!

Unfortunately, even if you don't open the attachments, they clog up your inbox, and can cause genuine emails to bounce back to senders once you exceed your ISPs storage limit...

A new virus threat broke out on the Internet today (9/18/03)

The W32.Swen.A@mm worm can inflect your computer through Email, IRC, Network Shares, Kazaa, and Newsgroups.

The Email infection masquerades as a security notice with a "patch" attached to the Email from Microsoft.

Please be advised, Microsoft does *NOT* send security patches via email.

The virus also takes advantage of a security flaw in Microsoft Outlook that allows an attached .exe files to be executed without *ANY* user action.

Emails with an .exe attachment are filtered before they reach your in box so again this is an ‘FYI’.

For those of you who have home PC running Windows can find more information at the following links.

Swen? Heyyyy...how did I get dragged into this?

P.S. Some people spell my name as Swen...don't know why. Don't care as long as they know it's me. Heck...I've had people at work call me Schwen, Seven, Swen, etc....

My anti-virus package (Norton) identifies this thing as the "Automat.AHB Worm"

320 or so copies in my inbox since yesterday AM!

This is really strange, but I don't seem to be getting any that I know of. Now I'm feeling left out!

I don’t speak a word of Inuit, Yiddish or Malagasy, but there is a personal-edition freeware virus checker on some Danish sites that has the capability of simple manually-initiated virus-data updates, and an auto-scheduler that doesn’t work if your OS is on G: drive. [~4MB file]

[These are English-language versions.]

Also, McAfee has an online checker, but I have no idea what security you give up using it.

Don’t forget these are worth every penny you paid for ‘em.
