I'm wiring a 480v motor from the starter I'm going down into the concrete floor with galv pipe to protect from damage, afraid pvc will get broken above the slab, then change to 70'pvc run in the slab then back to galv when I exit the slab to the motor. Does the code allow pvc pipe between galv

Just be sure you bond the exposed sections of galvanized and run a hard wire EGC.

I under stand the bonding of the exposed galv. and a grounding conductor in the pvc but what is a hard wire, is it a solid wire.

I think Greg is saying that since you can't use PVC conduit to serve as a ground return path (equipment grounding conductor), sometimes known to its dear and intinmate friends as a 'ground wire', you need to run a physical wire through the conduit run to serve that purpose.

Yup, sorry, that must be an old timey or a regional term. I was referring to an equipment grounding conductor. Actually if it is bigger than #10 it can't be solid.

Excuse me, but liquid wire will just slump down into the PVC.

It's going to have to be solid wire.

I prefer stranded.
