Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is notifying retailers and consumers that a six-outlet surge protector manufactured by Jiande City Kingtec Electrical Appliance Company, Ltd. bears a counterfeit holographic UL Listing Mark for the United States and Canada, does not meet UL safety requirements and may pose a risk of fire or electric shock. The use of the Listing Mark is not authorized by UL.

Name of Product: Model KT-PO2RM4

Units: Approximately 20,000

Manufacturer: Jiande City Kingtec Electrical Appliance Company, Ltd. of Jiande, China

Date of Manufacture: June 2003 through July 2004. The date of manufacture is identified by a four-digit code representing the year and month of manufacture. For example, 04 07 represents the 7th month of 2004.

Hazard: This product has features that do not comply with UL safety standards and may pose a risk of fire or electric shock.

Identification:

On the product: The surge protector has six outlets and an illuminated on/off switch on one side. Molded into the bottom of the product is a UL Listing Mark and the following information: "Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor Power Tap Model: KT-P02RM4," "E210984," "Caution: To Reduce The Risk Of Electric Shock For Indoors Use In Dry Locations Only" and "Max. Load 125V 15A 60HZ." Attached to the back of the product is a counterfeit UL holographic label with unauthorized UL and cUL Listing Marks and the markings "06/03," "Listed Relocatable Power Tap" and "40EN."

On the Packaging: The packaging is marked with the descriptions: "Surge Protector," "275 joules" and "automatic shutdown protection." It also has a UL Listing Mark on the front of the packaging which is not authorized.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The counterfeit surge protector looks similar to a surge protector that is authorized to bear the UL Listing Mark.
The counterfeit product is tan in color, is provided with a holographic Listing Mark and a molded UL Listing Mark.
The authorized product is white in color, is provided with a holographic Listing Mark but is not provided with a molded UL Listing Mark.

What You Should Do: UL encourages consumers to discontinue the use of this product and contact the manufacturer or return the product to the place of purchase.
