DETROIT-- Police are investigating the electrocution of a man Friday night who came into contact with power lines atop a utility pole.
The man, described as being about 45 years old to 50 years old, was on top of a garage at a home on Hilsdale Street near John R, when the incident occurred. Authorities said that the unnamed man may have been a squatter in the home who was using automotive jumper cables to illegally hookup power to the vacant home.

Utility officials said that the victim was killed after the ladder on which he was standing came into contact with an overhead line, which carried about 4,800 volts, Local 4 reported.

The block lost power for about 35 minutes after the incident.
