I was asked for my opinion on the following application. How to connect a two wire circuit (no ground wire) to a GFCI receptacle? In general, I do not see a problem here since the GFCI should provide a certain degree of personnel protection disregarding if a solid ground is present or not. However, the customer claims that the two wires are color coded blue and yellow ... the house is from 1960. Its a little bit to far to just drive over there and determine hot and neutral with a volt meter. Anybody an idea on the colors?
Also, does NEC recommend the GFCI install for a two wire circuit? I believe it is mentioned somewhere in the 96 code, but am not sure about it.
