Patient Care Receptacles: How many are required?

Question:
What number of duplex receptacles and branch circuits are required per patient care location?

Answer:
You might want to read the Z32-99 "Electrical Safety and Essential Electrical Systems in Health Care Facilities Standard...it states in Table #6 the following info:

Basic Care Areas= 1 duplex per patient care location & 0.5 number of branch circuits per patient care location.

Intermediate Care Areas= 3 duplex's per patient care location & 1.5 number of branch circuits.

Critical Care Areas= 8 duplex's per patient care location & 4 number of branch circuits.

Operating Rooms= 14 total (6 on walls & 8 on ceiling) & 7 number of branch circuits.

0.5 means one circuit shared with one other bed location.

1.5 means one dedicated circuit plus one circuit shared with one other bed location.
