You have to ensure that any controls on any machinery don't start without prior knowledge. Having a lockable isolator next to the pump or whatever, to make sure that the thing won't start on you is a good idea. Even so, there should always be a warning sign on the gear itself: This equipment is controlled by an automatic switch, it may start without warning, please isolate all supply to this motor before working on it.
