Hi All,

I`ve heard it in the news that huge windstorms were around Europe, and in many cities damages were by trees, and other flying objects.

Any info on this? They said it will come to us too.

Here in Scotland winds in excess of 70mph

Erskine bridge closed (main road over the clyde)
Forth road bridge closed to high sided vehicles (main road over the Forth)
Tay bridge closed (main road over the Tay)

Severe flood warnings on most major rivers and it has been like this for the last couple of days

It was very windy in Stockholm and other parts of Sweden, but no real damage. It seems Scotland somehow protects Scandinavia from the big storms coming in from the Atlantic.

It's been windy in England too, although we normally don't get battered as badly as our Scottish cousins north of the border.

The strongest winds have eased now, but it's still a little blustery.

Webcams are cool. I like to watch our cities thru them. :~)

It wasn't too bad here in Norfolk, although I've lost a couple of fence panels.

The UK winds made the news over here in the states as well, showing our Sec of State getting off a plane at Heathrow and staggering off the stairs of the plane...

Yeah, we have a few in Westminster like that as well!

This wind generator didn't fare too well last night over at my neighbor's son's place. He lost part of the roof on one of the old wood sheds as well. Pieces of it were scattered all along the road through the woods this morning.

It sure is. Typical agricultural-establishment methods of installation, I'm afraid. That said though, the antenna remained firmly attached to the pole! It was the weld on the latter which gave way.

I'm not here to take the gloss off of any storms or the like.
Ever been on a roof trying to hold down a bit of roofing iron, while trying to nail the thing back down?.
You would not get a builder up on a roof in these conditions.
Back in 1998 I nearly had my head cut off by an errant piece of corrugated iron that flew over my head during a storm here.
It removed the visor from my helmet, that I had tucked out of the way.
You folks may have heard me talk about "Twist-Nails".
They are far superior to Lead-head nails and they NEVER pull out!.
What's more is the fact that they are Hot-Dipped Galvanised.
What really scares me folks is when you see EHV insulators and towers bent up or on the ground, considering that they were 150m in the air before the storm.
The power of nature.
It just goes to show how Man has got in the way of Nature.
