Hi Gentlemen,

There are details of a new qualification for those involved soley with satisfying the requirements of Part P of the building regulations that may be of interest. From what I can make out, the holder of this qualification would to all intents and purposes be a qualified "house basher"! The information can be found at - http://www.eal.org.uk/EAL.nsf/0/1776147eb731dce080256eec0056cdbe?OpenDocument
Though you know what my links are like!
Happy reading!
Your link is fine this time Steve! [Linked Image]

I still see the primary achievement of all this as being the creation of even more layers of bureaucracy and a way for outfits to "earn" money on approval courses. [Linked Image]

If work is not carried out by a competent person, I still haven't seen anything to say who is responsible for telling the council. Is is the person carrying out the work or the homeowner?
I can to a degree understand the reason for creating a domestic electrician qualification to coincide with Part P, but I am puzzled that it is a thing called a VRQ and not an NVQ. I would have thought that the existing NVQ system could have been used - are they just trying to get out of candidates having any official assessment on site or are they breeding a bunch of theory only sparkys? - and will they "qualify" in no time at all, unlike their fully qualified counterparts who have to spend the best part of 4 years jumping through hoops!
