Every day I sign on to my E-mail accounts and there are all these messages from porn sites, mainly from America, with the .com domain.
What really riles me, is the fact that I have never(and don't intend to) accessed thier sites, so where have they got my e-mail address from?.
I don't like this at all and I have tried to tell these people to go away (in not so many words), but you just end up with more of the same!.
How do you get rid of this sort of tripe?.
Any help with this would be most gratefully recieved!.
Cheers,
Trumpy. [Linked Image]

Yep.... Once your e-mail address hits one of the sleaze sites, it'll soon get around.

A friend (the one whose computer I just got sorted out) logged on for the first time in over a week. His e-mail was full of this stuff. Even a lot of the subject lines are now X-rated, so it's all there before anyone even reads the message. As he said to me, "If I was trying to demonstrate the system to someone who had no idea what e-mail was, what are they going to think about me when the first thing they see is all that?" One thing not to do is to click on the "Please remove me from your list" link in their message. All that does is tell them that there's someone on the other end of the e-mail address who is actually receiving their filth.

There are two main things you can do about spam right now. First is to use an internet provider that gives you a filtering service. Many companies have it as an option and it can be your first line of defense. The second thing is to build you own personal set of rules. I'm most familiar with Outlook but most mail programs have the ability.
I started with a couple and eventually bult to about 25 or 30. With that small set, I automatically delete the great majority of my spam. You need to be pretty explicit with the filters. I am almost embarrased to read my rule list. The language is rough but words there don't come up on my email.

Paul,
Oops!
I think that this may explain why my Inbox is always full of this rubbish.
Darn!
All I wanted to do was make it go away. [Linked Image]

I use to get a lot of spam. But now I use "tracker" with a e-mail account that is not with my ISP. This way I find out who's selling my name. IE, all of my messages from ebay go into one of these " tracker" account when I start getting a lot of spam I delete the old address make up a new one. It would appear that a lot a ebay seller make money by selling you email address to spammers. This is a quote from http://www.emailservice.com

" A Tracker is an alias to your existing Mailblocks account. Trackers provide multiple, easy-to-use, disposable email addresses that allow you to receive messages from automated systems and unknown senders, while protecting your primary account from spam and other unwanted mail. The key differences between a Tracker and your regular email address are:

Messages addressed to a Tracker bypass the Mailblocks address authorization and blocking technology.
Messages addressed to Tracker can be delivered to your Inbox or to an automatically generated folder that stores Tracker messages.
In effect, Trackers provide multiple, easy-to-use, disposable email aliases that allow you to receive—and easily terminate—messages from automated systems and unknown senders, while protecting your primary account from spam and other unwanted mail."

This setup cost about $10. a year.

Another problem and reason for getting spam is spyware installed on your computer without your knowlege. Spyware reports back to the spamming company you web surfing habits and thus the type of advertisement that might interest you. That is why, for example, if you are searching for information on retirement programs you start getting the Viagra ads. I use a program called Spybot Search and Destroy to find and remove spyware, it's free and it works. Just Google the name and you'll find a download site.
I changed ISP's to one with a spam filter and never get spam anymore. I was getting about 30 messages a day before. Hope this helps.

I finally had to stop using the email address that my ISP provides. They weren't blocking anything. I was, and probably still am, recieving about 150 per day. And I am very careful about who gets my address.

I moved to an online account (yahoo, msn, hotmail) and a remailer. I use pobox.com. They do excellent serverside filtering. I now get maybe one or two a week. And they are semi-legit. (real companies).

I decided, since my cable internet provider decided that they don't need to filter, I would leave all of the spam on their server. I can read my old email account from my webmail and I choose to leave messages on the server. Eventually they will ask me about it, then I will revisit the fact that they don't filter. I don't know if I should mention the name of the provider..... but you wouldn't need a CHART to find them.

Welcome to ECN, my friend. [Linked Image]
Yes, like yourself, I got sick and tired of the one liner Adult orientated crap that was provided to me by my ISP, as they "pimped out" my email address, I have a new one these days and I get nothing but the important e-mails these days, from you guys!.
And to say this in a Homer Simpson voice "That's all that really matters". [Linked Image]
