This is from a mechanical contractor's boiler room. If you're a control electrician, you get to do this kind of stuff.

Are they mixing line voltage with low voltage wires in that 4-11/16 box?

The low voltage wires are probably good for 120 volts but the open holes into the box are larger than allowed.

It looks like a lot of work to do something wrong. As Greg points out, there are extension boxes. I think an 8.8.4 box is a cost effective solution.

If you're a control electrician you'd learn how to do that sort of stuff properly.

And this is why I like our DIN Rail mounting stuff.
Everything inside the one sealed box, no need to wack holes in everything.

Funny you say that, the base of most (if not all) of this type relay has facility for DIN rail mounting.

That is just awesome!
A bigger box and some DIN Rail would have negated rough work like this.
There should be no need to tear the front out of any box to fit what you have in it.
Maybe the guy was just too lazy to do the job properly.

They couldn't afford a nice Nema 1 8x8 heck a 6x6 would even work ..

not to mention that custom little blue grommet will definitely help in aiding a flame within, if it were to appear ..
