We are required to have 'good workmanship.' Just how subjective that can be is illustrated by this pair of pics.

I ran power to a pair of air conditioning condensers. In my original install, I had the disconnects grouped together, with a convenience receptacle below one.

(I know, there are working space issues here; I was doing the best with the hand I had been dealt, Competing codes ruled out any other location for the A/C. Neither stairs nor switchgear were present when the HVAC guys did their thing. Nor was any information available- not even the voltage- for the condensers until they arrived on site. In any event, there is about 26" between the building and the condensers- and a walkable path between them.)

The inspector was not happy with this arrangement- so I had to separate the disconnects and re-locate the receptacle. Now the disco on the left is not really accessible from the door; you have to reach around the stair support to operate it.

The reason....was appearance. Personally, I don't see much of an improvement.

the inspector must be a moron there is little difference from pic #1 from pic#2 sometimes you can only do so much with the way the compressor units are set up....As for the workmanship it is a perfect installation
