I recently had the chance to demo the hack electric work one guy did in his industrial rental space. These two pics, taken in the bathroom, are a good example of his technique.

It looks bad enough without opening the wall.....but, behind the wall, our friend decided, halfway through the job, that he really didn't need EMT after all. He continued the wires through the wall/ceiling spaces, then connected them to the boxes with two-screw clamps.

What he needed was one of those new conduit stretchers. Greenlee is currently designing a version that is good for EMT and PVC.... I'm told you'll be able to pull about 3"-4" out of a ten foot stick of EMT and 6"-8" on PVC...on a warm day. [Linked Image]

The presence of two red wires would indicate the idiot factor was quite high the day this circuit was installed. Hey at least he put a cable clamp on the box with those red wires. Yikes!!!

Why is it that more stuff doesn't burn down due to stuff like this.....and would the insurance company pay out if it was related to something like this. I'll have to check my homeowner's policy for a 'DUH' clause.

I especially love the cord going right back into the same box the receptacle feeder is coming out of!

I have seen some crappy work in my day, but this guy has championed the crappiest electrician award for the time being.

Hey, give the guy a break. At least he used boxes.

Better than lamp cord, I guess.

Not by much, but better.

Have no doubt- there was lamp cord used elsewhere in this nightmare. As for using boxes, every box had at least one knock-out, usually several, missing.

I've seen instalations in Mexico done with lamp cord and without boxes that looked much, much neater and more proffesional than this one does

BTW John,
What is that cover hanging down in front of the CFL lamp?.

Looks like an exhaust fan cover.

What was the round outlet box by the lampholder for? An old light?
