Was out getting lunch on duty at the FD a few weeks ago and noticed this behind the gas station / mini mart / restaurant - went by today and it's still there, so I snapped a pic.

Will be going there tomorrow to volt-tick it and see if it's live, and visiting with the AHJ to show it to him (the local Electrical Inspector is a retired FF from here I used to work with).

See that alot around my area. Just assumed no line side feed coming in to open meter. Road side signs and sub division entrance is common for this abandoned look. I would think POCO would be responsible for making sure to de-energize or safety blank with tag, not the AHJ.

I've noticed a lot of meter sockets in public spaces here in the Miami, FL are are of a type that has a plastic shield over the contacts so the passing fingers can't touch them. The shields have across shaped slots through which the meter's contacts presumably plug in.

The connectors don't look standard, so I don't think you can plug a regular meter in (at least not with an adapter), but it would be nice to see this type of meter socket become standard; it severely reduces the danger factor of an empty socket!

UPDATE:

Seems like every time I was there, I didn't have my wiggy... when I did, I wasn't near there.

Got a chance to go by there today... it's dead.

Still be nice to have a blank cover IMHO.
