Hey Rich, those are my favorite kind of jobs, you can make some dough there. Either the sink or the panel got to go. The whole "rats nest" in the basement will need lots of attention, and I don't have time to look at the whole outside but there are somthings peeking my curiosity just on the surface.
The only thing in your customers favor is that you should be able to run a 90 out of the bottom of the meter socket and run some rigid down the exterior, thats if there is room down that way for the panel in the interior.
The things that I didn't really look to closely at are your clearances on the roof top, and what ever the cables are kind of drapped around the weather head.
Good luck and work safe

That house needs more power as much as a fish needs a bicycle!

The priority should be to clean up the wiring mess that he's made for himself....with the talents of a trained sparky, he might find out that he doesn't need a larger service after all- just some sanity restored to his circuits.

Indeed, I would refuse to upgrade the service until the mess is cleared up first.

BTW, that's not a sink....the HO put the 'catch basin' in to help us recover any screws or wire nuts we might drop :-)

I'll do it from here....

Replace Main and Dist. with excessively large J-box, or several small ones. Drag 'Pat Pending' Magic Wire and Cable Comb through that mess, and pipe every 6 circuits over to new panel location at corner of house nearest pole. See DONE!

Not that they need an up-grade, they need re-grade.

Does the drop go over the pool too?

the homeowners had an extension built, without any permits, so to upgrade they need a relocated drop to the left of the house, meter main disco, and ser to existing panel location, new 40 circuit main lug panel, and the slop sink has to go. homeowner's response " It works now so we are going to let it be" They will be in for a rude awakening when lipa(POCO) has to get to the drop(they will not service the drop unless they have access by ladder) the drop to the right of the house is telephone.

With an attitude like that?

RUN, FORREST, RUN!

Wow!,
Never before have I seen a bigger electrical mess in the one room. [Linked Image]
Are those gas pipes running above the panel?.
This is going to take a lot of work to get right.

Just tell him to bring the Bank down and park it at the door, it could come in handy. [Linked Image]
Is that the telephone service draped across the outside (past the upstairs window) of the
house?.
Man that's rough!. [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
