I was working on installing a new service at a very large shopping mall. I was walking down a hall from the switch gear room and found something I’ve never seen before… Gummy EMT! I don’t think I could even bend it like this if I tried for days. Yes, it is ½” EMT (it is pretty rusty).

If this is what the outside looks like, I'd hate to see what's inside that pipe and that box. [Linked Image]

Because I prefer to believe that no one can be so stupid they'd go out of their way to kink up a piece of conduit that could otherwise remain perfectly straight, I'm betting this stuff was second hand: It was probably ripped out of somewhere, and got good and bent up in the process.

The money they saved from not having to buy new EMT, they wasted on all those staps needed to hold this mess to the wall. [Linked Image]

Was this perhaps meant to be "temporary" and thus few clips were used initially, and only added to when people had damaged (bent) the stuff??? Just a guess, as I can't believe someone would take the additional time necessary to actually hang that crap...

Most of the straps appear to be oversized too. The one near the box looks to be maybe 1".

Sorry ShOcKeR, didn't mean to diss your job!! [Linked Image]

Hazmat, this was just the beginning. I didn't have time to take more pics, but we found this same "quality work" after the demo took place of the suspended ceiling. Lots of unsupported EMT, and it looked like it was hand-bent (literally with the hands and not with a bender). Oh well, we got a great laugh from it!

Now you know how you get under bid on jobs.
slap any junk in and run special by trunk slammer.
I wish that those who do this would get jail time.
