While looking for something else I came across the following pictures of recent new construction and I had a question:

Does the receptacle inside have to be GFCI protected too?

- Just kidding Folks ...

ROFLMAO! I guess that's one of the best pics here ever!
Don't tell me this was ever hot! I've built iglus like that myself, but not in my wildest dreams I'd have thought of installaing any wiring in there! Snow is just frozen water and IMHO water and electricity don't mix too well...
Besides installing a light bulb in such a low structure would pose some problems I guess... and if they put a light bulb inside they'd have some serious heat issues [Linked Image]

I think the inside fixture was a cool white florescent. [Linked Image]

What a choice to make: Sit in the dark, or have your walls melt! [Linked Image]

Hilarious!

Imagine the plumbing/sewer woes!

There are some great photos here and elsewhere on the net, but this is the best! Now why didn't I come up with that idea for my children?
The close second to this photo is the guy on a ladder in a pool installing a light [Linked Image]

The N.E.C probbably does not coment on this type of construction. So I looked at the Canadian Electrical Code. And I came to the conclusion it is a catergory 1 location in a building of non-combustible construction. This would require that the structure be wired with NMWU, that both receptacles have W.P. covers on them, and that the light fixture be of W.P. construction. Since the structure does not have cooking facilities, it is not considered a dwelling unit, and therefore a G.F.C.I.is not required on either receptacle and A.F.C.I. not required in the sleeping area.

Outstanding Bill!!!

I'm with the others...this is one of the best ever. I rank this one with Tedesco's floating soap bottle receptacle!

Thanks for sharing this little gem.

I bet the service entrance panel doesn't have 6'7" head room clearance unless there is a basement.

Excellent, Bill!! I love it!
BTW, which way is that "noncompliant" receptacle installed, ground up or down??
Should this be considered a separate building covered under 250.32?...S

electure,

I don't know which way it was, sorry.

I guess you guys out in Sunny CA aren't zoned for this kind of structure, eh?

Would this structure require a special branch circuit for refridgeration equipment? [Linked Image]
Posted By: crash Re: Question on New Construction - 11/07/03 03:21 AM
That depends. The temperature within an occupied (properly built(www.igloobuildingcode.com)) Igloo is always 32F. If it was any warmer the Igloo would melt, if it were any cooler the heat from the occupent would bring the temperature up to the maximunm (snow is the perfect insulator). If the occupent were to require temperatures cooler than 32F, then refrigeration equipment would be required

The mention of an Igloo to almost any construction worker in SoCA. would only bring to mind a water jug, or an ice chest. [Linked Image]
(but then, last night there were snowball fights in the Watts, Compton, and Willowbrook areas of LA, absolutely unheard of!)

btw, we only had light showers here in Anaheim, less than 20 miles away.
