Pic #1 is of a new support for a Service Entrance - call it a "Service Ladder" if you will...

Pic 4 is from a commercial job I was helping a buddy with. He got the call because the site had failed it's final due to "loose fixtures". (another EC was responsible for construction - he got hired to clean up after them)
The original "electrician" took the mounting bracket for the HID pack and installed it backwards. He even took the time to cut the slot for the bracket projection in the siding plate. Of course, the bracket projection is part of what keeps the fixture stationary... The handyman the restaurant hired sank several drywall screws at the top corner of the fixture to keep it from moving. It didn't work.

Pic 1: That looks like the PoCo feeders lying across the ladder brackets. WHAT?!

Are there no inspectors out there? How about the PoCo? Sleepig on the job?

I'd rather jump during a fire than touch that ladder.

The other stuff: I've actually run across similar garbage. Disturbing, but not rare.

It's a crazy world...someone oughtta sell tickets.

I don't see anything wrong with the first pic... it was designed that way to ensure nobody would be successful in climbing onto the roof...

The third pic is kind of ironic, that sign with all the safety warnings: STOP ENGINE, NO SMOKING, NO OPEN FLAME... all next to an unsafe installation.

While it shows a violation, I don't see any safety issue.

Interesting pictures. Does Canada recognize the NEC or no? I'm not sure. I always thought the purpose for article 230.9 was in case there was a fire and the firemen needed to get throught the window. I think I read that here in fact. By the looks of it, the firemen WILL NOT get through that window on the right.

Is the line insulator near the window to keep anyone at the window from touching the drop, or was it once upon a time on the drop by the ladder???

Either way.....I have an issue.

If those are utility controlled service conductors like it or not they are outside the scope of the NEC. 90.2(B)(5)(a).

It seems you could call the utility and remind them of the NESC.

If I came upon a situation like pic #1 & #2, I surely would call the area POCO supervisor.

Without knowing the whole situation, it's difficult to determine what was there first (Pic-1). As I said before, looks like a line insulator sleeve on the drop, by the right window. Irregardless of the ladder issue, it don't look like 3' from the window either.

The ladder is much older than the service.

I have no idea - there's been so much renovation over the last 60 or so years since the CHF closed that all of the maps & prints are out of date.
