Jim, in the second pic, I can see a plug sticking up in the air, on the left side of the tree trunk, tell me, this isn't one of the many splices in this wiring.

Trumpy, that plug is plug/receptacle combination on the end of a string of christmas lights. The miniture lights are wrapped around the trunk, about 12" below the plug.
