Joe, Here is something I found today that I couldn't resist sending you. I found this from a complaint given by the local power company. Now there are several violations here, not the least of which is the 10 AWG wire on a double pole 70 amp breaker, and the panel definitely needs to be changed because of deterioration. There are several others. This is a pretty poor situation. But the most interesting thing to me is the neutral wire terminated by the vise grip pliers. And this circuit was being used by the way. It was running about 200 feet to a travel trailer. I wonder what the voltage drop may be doing to affect the stuff in the trailer? The conductor is on top of the neutral bus and the vise grip is the connector. They could not back any of the screws out on the bus because of deterioration, and by the way, this is a main panel!

Thanks, Darryl Dempsey

I guess the best thing about vise-grips is that they don't come with plastic-dipped handles- or some yahoo would use them on the buss bars- especially since FPE breakers are so hard to find, and so expensive when you find them!

What's going on with romex looking wire straight up the bottom with the conductors twisted together and attatched to neutral bar? inquiring minds wanna know

Is that breaker and wire on the bottom left "new"? Looks kinda like it's a 50A.

Vise-Grip just came out with plastic-coated handles! Maybe this guy will use them on a hot wire? (Can we nominate him for a Darwin in advance?)

well it looks like one of the circuits in the panel is right.that's the one just above the vise/grips.green tape too.but i can't tell the breaker or wire size.

John Steinke...yes we can [Linked Image]

Would the electrician who replaces this
mess get to keep the vise grips? They
may be too rusty to bother with, though...

Maybe a bit of naval jelly to get rid of the rust on the 'grips? Hmmm.....on second thought...nah....they're probably too seized up. [Linked Image]

I think the vise grips would stay with the panel as the electrician threw it in the dumpster.
