In the 2006 code book we now have two tables for nuetral supported cable T36 A & T36 B. I have never seen copper neutral supported cable, all the electricians I have asked have never seen it either. Can anyone explain where this is used and why, the way the price of copper is it would seem to be an expensive way to go using copper.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like Neutral-Screened cable.
N/S cable is used here in NZ for overhead services into residential installations.
The neutral conductor in the cable is used as the support for the cable at both ends (as in it is wrapped around an insulator on the pole crossarm and on the house), the only other wire in the cable is the centre core which is the PVC insulated phase wire to supply the house.
I'll see if I can get a pic of a typical install here to show you what I mean.

I have seen copper NSC before. It was at an old industrial facility. We we actually doing a demo of the facility and my job was to cut out all the overhead cables that ran between the power plant and the building.

That was many years ago (almost 20) and they were pretty old then I suspect.

Are you referring to triplex and quadruplex service drop cable? A bare center neutral (ACSR) having two or three insulated conductors spiraled around it?

I haven't seen that stuff made out of copper since before I was born (1960).

Thanks guys, I see I am not the only one who is confused. T36B is for triplex and quadplex,n neutral supported cable with insulated copper conductors. As I said in my original posting no one as seen it or used it so why is it suddenly in the new code book?
