Got an interesting call today. Apparently, there are 2 card readers on a building, both totally exposed to the elements. When the sun shines hot and brightly at the card readers, they don't function. Any other time, dull day, nite, etc. They work great!

Anybody heard of this prob? Solutions?

Thought the card readers would be able to handle a little heat?
What type of readers? Prox or barcode? Happens quite frequently with barcode readers. Some manufactures make a weather shield for their readers when used exposed. You can make one out of plastic. With prox card readers, although many are mounted exposed, the sun can overheat the electronics or cause the case to warp or crack. I shield these with a hood when out in the sun. Robert
Also, some components (diodes, LEDS) can be photosensitive...
