What would your time estimate be to punch down 38 RJ-45 modular jacks, mount a wall rack, terminate 38 cables to a patch panel, and test all cables for opens, shorts, and reversed pairs.

I recently did this job T&M, I don't don't do this everyday and want to know how slow I am at it.

I'll post back with my actual time after I get some feedback.

I can tell you it takes me about 5 minutes to terminate a jack and install the jack and plate on the wall. This would be to a plaster ring or previously cut in MPLS.

As for the patch panel, much depends on how the cable bundle is routed (I always prefer to bundle it down the wall surface from the ceiling to the patch panel). Also whether you subscribe to tagging the cables or ringing them out as you punch them down.

I prefer to work with another person. He will put tone on the wall jack, I will stay at the patch panel and locate the cable and punch it down. Then the other guy will replace the toner with the remote for the cable tester. I will do the test then move on to the next jack. To communicate we use Nextels or radios.

All told this will probably be about a days work for the both of us.
