I'm looking to find a tester for cat5 rj45 and general residential phone (rj11??). Nothing super complicated.. but a tester that allows me to check wiring configs on the jacks.Do they make a tracer that has that capability?? Thanks ToHo
This is the one I use

same one I use too. You'll need two small patch cords for each side. I paid $80 or so at Graybar, and my dad saw them for less at HD.
Thanks ..I'll check out some prices and pick one up.. ToHo
I like E57 links better they have a tone insertor which would be handy.
Yeah, I agree. for the extra money I would have gone with the Fluke, had I known.
I got a digital tester that tests coax, phone and data for around $100 from Home Depot. It has a dongle you place on one end and use the digital meter on the other side. Works pretty good for the limited amount of low voltage we do. I think its made by ideal, but I forget.
If we did more, I'd invest in a meter that gave signal to noise and distance measurements, but I hear they are pretty pricy.
