C-10 is the califorina Contractors license by what I read on there site . Question is Can you do electrical work with that license or are you required to employ Licensed General electricans Class to do the work???

You can perform all the work yourself with a CA C10. It is a contractor's license, and is issued by the CA State License Board.

Any C10 that has employees must use Certified employees. Certification is issued by the Dept. of Apprenticeship Standards, a completely different entity.

Electure is of course correct, but to clearify a tad...

C-10 allows you to CONTRACT electrical work, California certification allows you to PERFORM the work. Most of us out here have both a C-10 AND cetification, as most of us pull wire AND push pencils.

Some of the larger companies, however, split the work. The C-10 is held by a company officer/owner that is strictly a desk jocky, and all the guys in the field must only have certification to legally do the work contracted.

Clarifying a bit. If you have a C-10 you do not need to also be certified in California.

The C-10 allows you to contract and exempts you from requiring certification while performing work on YOUR jobs.
Should you want to work for wages for another C-10 you would need State certification, or to subcontract from the other C-10

Even Close? Suffice to say they're different. Many States do not have a Master's Classification.

The C-10 classification has been around since at least the 1930's, and the Journeyman Electrician's Certification was recently implemented.

This doesn't mean that everything was a hackfest free for all prior to the implementation of the Journeyman's Certification.

Both require an in depth exam.
The C10's exam has a section devoted to Contract Law.
The Journeyman's Exam has no such section.

My point is if you carry a C-10 you can do work for your own company but cannot work for another Company with a C-10 You must take a Exam, So just how good is a C-10 ?? Another words you can do electrical work for the Company you own but not anyplace else without testing right.
