Does anyone know the status of this bill in the PA Legislature?

HB 623 RE: Electrical Contractors Licensing (by Rep. Bob Godshall, et al)
Provides for the licensure of electrical contractors, journeyman electricians and registered apprentices by creating the Electrical Contractors Licensing Act to set up a system for licensure and regulation of electrical contractors, journeyman electricians and registered apprentices. The bill also establishes the State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors and provides for its powers and duties.
Referred to House Professional Licensure Committee, 2/16/2005

Hi JFSL.

This bill has been submitted several times before (with different numbers), and has been struck down each time.
It is almost identical to the NJ license requirements.
I believe the Home Builders Lobby is the reason it does not pass.

Call your local State Rep. and ask about the status.

BTW,
I support it.

Redsy,
I have been told that the local townships have fought it, due to the wording that the local townships can not charge contractors for licensing fees. They will loose a revenue stream, to the tune of $100 per contactor/ year.

Makes sence for me. If the State wanted $500 year, I would be saving at least $500 in license fees.

One thing I didn't like was the wording that a contractor couldn't get a license if he was physically disabled.

Where do you draw the line? 10%, 90%

What about the disabled Vets that are considered 30% disabled? They are not allowed to be Electricians, because they took a bullet in the leg?

The bill needs some work, but it is a start...

Redsy, that bill was submitted in Feb. There was another bill, HB 1024 submitted in March for just Electrical Contractors to be Lic.

No sane legislator would create law to deny a man a trade on the basis of a physical handicap.
