thank's a-line we are right about the same price list.
A-line, how much would the same set-up be in EMT?
Thanks.
1/2in. EMT 120v 15a receptacle up to 20ft. Surface mount indoor non-gfci $195
For GFCI recepatcle $220
I don't know if I would put too much faith in my prices. I'm a one man shop starting out and learning. I think my prices may be on the low side.
A-line where are you located?
West Haven, Utah USA
Just north of Salt Lake City

A-line, I', also a 1-man gang just startin out (with a helper sometimes). Do you have a flat-rate price sheet you go by for sales such as those? If so, do you have some sort of "out clause" in case of some obscure breaker panel?
Thanks for the info.
"A number of companies using price sheets, do not understand the need to adjust for job conditions."
I would think those companies would lose alot of cash!
Do you have a sample sheet I could take a look at?
Thanks. RTW
I don't qoute a price over the phone.
I charge a trip/diagnostic fee to come out.
I look the job over and present the price to the customer from the book. There are adjustments listed in the book such as exeeding a certain ceiling height. If these conditions exist they are added to the price of the task.
If the wiring that I'm connecting to needs to be repaired or replaced than there is a seperate task for this.
So I would show the customer the cost for repairing the wiring and also the cost for the receptacle installation and get a signature of approval before I begin any work.
If the customer declines to have the work done I collect the service/diagnostic fee and leave.
The prices I mentioned ealier do not include the service/diagnostic fee. I currently charge $39.50 for this so that would be added to the price.
"I charge a trip/diagnostic fee to come out.
"
A-Line, it sounds like you have a really good set-up, I imagine the 39.50 would eliminate a lot of potential tire-kickers.
I had a TV repairman come out to fix my big screen TV. He had a trip charge of $40 and a diagnostic fee of $40.
So it was $80 to have him come out to determine the problem. He was there about 10 minutes and said he would have to order the part and come back. He did apply the $80 to the cost of the repair. If I had declined to have the repairs done he would have collected the $80.
Charging these fees seems to be standard proceedure for a lot of the service companies. Now I just need to get mine up to $80
A-line, do you offer a the fee back if they get work done?
A-line sounds like a plan i have at my shop, but I charge 125.00 minuimm. That get rid of the freeloaders looking just for anwsers.
I don't give the fee back if they accept the work. I don't feel that $39.50 to come out is asking too much from them.
If I were to change my policy and offer the fee back if they accept the work I would make up for it by raising all my prices overall. So in the end my profit margin would remain the same.
you should not give that money back. that price to come out is resonable.
A-line, would it be possible to ask you a couple questions privately? My E-mail is in my profile. Thanks
A-line what book do you refer to?
