A few weeks ago I read where some electricans were instaslling christmas lights and doing very well with this during this time of year. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and what did you charge. Also if you had any pictures from some of those jobs, I think they would be neat to share.

I would hate to be the one they call when the strings go dead. Find those burned out bulbs, no thanks.

Yup. Just tossed a bunch of my own light strings in the dumpster, half the lights were out. I would rather spend the $15 or so for a new string then play with the old one and find out after I install it that something else is wrong.

On the subject, I remember a couple of years ago somebody made a testing device that would locate the bad lamps on these things.

Might be good businees if you get in on upgrading folks to LED lights. No burnt out bulbs, but fat chance of repeat business

Look the key to doing this sort of thing, is getting good quality gear for a start and installing it correctly.
BTW, just a note about IP Ratings, don't have a Chinese IP44 controller outside, they are as good as IP22 and will get water in them from the air, a waste of money, instead, use gear that has at least IP55 protection (encapsulated)
Over the last few Xmas's I've installed quite a number of elaborate lighting displays around town.
Mind you it is definitely a T&M thing, don't quote for it, you'll lose money, I've been there and done that.
Do the job once and do it properly, if you don't have to do any call-backs on the job, you've won for a start.
