I have a costumer with a newly installed diesel standby generator that has a 500 gallon tank within 3'. They want to dispense fuel from this tank to a fleet of trucks, I believe this installation must follow article 514 to be compliant. It has a pump mounted on top of the tank and is an outdoor installation. Any thoughts!
Thanks

This installation is not subject to Article 500. Use any of the wiring methods in Article 300 that are suitable for the environment.

sawdust454... George is correct. The presence of diesel fuel does not create a "classified" area. This of course assumes that there isn't a gasoline tank nearby the diesel tank. [Linked Image]

If you want more information, you should research NFPA 30A-2003, Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages. This is the standard that classifies motor vehicle fuel dispensing areas.

You can review a "read-only" copy of 30A on-line at: http://www.nfpa.org/itemDetail.asp?...lopment%20process/Free%20online%20access

Hope this helps.
