Is there any reference in the NEC or UBC 1997 that requires the use of a commercial rated washer or dryer in a commercial beauty salon?

They wash / dry a load or two of hand towels daily.

They want to use a residential washer/dryer and I think the only drawback is that the manufacturers warranty will be void, but want to double check.

Not a code issue and I doubt the usage exceeds a family with a bunch of kids if this is really a couple loads a day.
If my sister's experience is any indication (5 kids)a Kenmore/Whirlpool will do several loads a day for over a decade.

Definitely not an NEC code issue. We just install the receptacle and make sure it is to code. If the customer plugs in the wrong appliance for the application it is between them and the building inspector.
