If an AC unit going into the ceiling of an office space comes equipped with a fused disconnect mounted on the unit from the factory, does the code require an additional disconnect not mounted on the unit to make removal and reinstallation easier? I'm sure that we used to be able to just feed the factory disconnect directly, but I know that some jurisdictions require a disconnect mounted not on the unit. Since we have gone strictly to the code now, I was wondering if this was addressed.

I would think you would not need the extra disconnect, since you can open the switch and still service the unit.
But I have not looked at my code book yet either. Good question!
