Is there any problem with running romex up under an eve of a home as long as it is out of the weather and not subject to mechanical damage?

no it is not good idea to run romax for any outdoor appaction the uf wire will be better useage due it say for underground and sunlight restent and i am sure the ahj inspecter will say just use the uf wire other wise run in the conduct with twhn wire as need i am sure few other sparky will say the same answer what i say

They still build residential garages with exposed studs and romex run in them and thats just as much outdoors.

Uses not permitted for NM cable, 334.12(A)(10)d, "Where exposed or subject to excessive moisture or dampness".
