I added and moved a service panel at a home. This is an old 2 wire system house. Can I add a #12 thhn green ground wire (run through the studs coming from the old service panel) to a couple new 3 prong outlets I added in the kitchen just to get them grounded?

Why not just add a new 12-2 cable instead of the thhn?

In other words if you're going to go through the trouble of running the wire why not just rewire the outlet with the appropriate multiwire(with ground)cable?

I could do that, but why run the extra 2 conductors if there not needed.

Electrician might be think that the old wire could be a #14 since you are running a new #12 why not run the entire branch CKT new. Unless the wire there are in good condition. Any who I agree if I'm goin to run 1 #12 wahy not run a 12-2 and then you know that circuit is brand new. :-)
